The second half of the Colombian football season is under way. Whether you want to see your team live —or you’re planning a trip to Colombia and want to fit in a match— here’s everything you need: when games are played, the fieriest derbies, which stadium and city each big club plays in, tips for getting into the ground, and how to attend safely, even from abroad.
When it starts and how the tournament works
The Liga BetPlay 2026-II kicks off on Friday, 24 July 2026. The format:
- Round-robin (19 matchdays): through Sunday, 8 November. Every team plays all the others; the top 8 advance.
- Semi-final groups (cuadrangulares): the 8 qualifiers are split into two groups of 4; each group winner reaches the final.
- Final: two legs to decide the champion.
Kick-off times for each round are confirmed by the Dimayor as the season goes on; it’s worth checking close to matchday.
The derbies: which match is worth it
Colombia has three derbies worth the trip for the atmosphere alone:
- Clásico paisa — Atlético Nacional vs Independiente Medellín (Medellín): the city’s two giants, played in the same stadium.
- Clásico capitalino — Millonarios vs Independiente Santa Fe (Bogotá): the country’s oldest rivalry; they also share a stadium.
- Clásico vallecaucano — América de Cali vs Deportivo Cali (Cali).
Derbies and big-club matches are the first to sell out: if they interest you, secure your spot early.
Which stadium and city each team plays in
Handy if you’re building your trip and want to pair the match with the city:
- Millonarios and Independiente Santa Fe → El Campín Stadium, Bogotá (city centre, good public-transport access).
- Atlético Nacional and Independiente Medellín → Atanasio Girardot Stadium, Medellín (Laureles area, near the metro).
- América de Cali → Pascual Guerrero Stadium, Cali (central San Fernando neighbourhood).
- Junior de Barranquilla → Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez Stadium, Barranquilla.

Tips for going to the stadium (especially as a tourist)
- Bring your ID or passport: it may be requested at entry.
- Arrive early: entrances get congested, more so at derbies.
- Away end: at high-rivalry matches it’s sometimes restricted or placed in a specific section; if you’re neutral, choose home stands.
- Items: there are usually restrictions (umbrellas, bottles, flags on poles). Check beforehand.
- Buy in advance for derbies and big-club matches: they sell out first.
How to attend as a tourist (or from abroad)
Buying Colombian football tickets from abroad can get tricky: local payment methods, Spanish-only platforms, identity checks. At FTA Tickets we make it simple: secure purchase, support in your language and a team in the region. You pick the match and the seats, and that’s it —no sorting out local logistics on your own. On each event you’ll see the price from, which varies by match and seating.
